Summary

Activities

Coach Luca

  • Readiness: Unconfirmed
  • Triggers: No morning check-in received; back soreness status unresolved after April 30 massage (no athlete update received since 22:13 MDT yesterday); April 30 session outcome unconfirmed (no ride report received); recovery specialist log stale (no same-morning May 1 input).
  • Session: Pre-travel endurance with openers, 1:30-1:45 (conservative end of 1:45-2:00 range given Unconfirmed readiness), easy endurance + 4x3 min at 75-82% FTP. Contingency: shorten to easy 45-60 min or skip if back soreness is still limiting.
  • Hashimoto's watch: no active flare indicators. Pre-travel immune resilience context active (China May 2). Five consecutive days of fat deficit is the primary nutrition concern for thyroid and immune function.
  • Specialist gate: Recovery materially implicated (back soreness, pre-travel risk, Hashimoto's immune resilience). Endurance materially implicated (session prescription, contingency framing). Nutrition materially implicated (final fat-correction day before flight, pre-session fueling guidance, standalone plan available). Strength: not implicated (no gym work today).
  • Weather source: Open-Meteo Edmonton (53.5461, -113.4938). Daily WMO code 3 (overcast). High 17.1°C / Low 7.2°C. 0 mm precipitation. Max wind 19.6 km/h. At 08:30 MDT approx 9.4°C, warming to 17°C peak at 16:00-17:00. Best outdoor window 11:00 onward.
  • Nutrition carry-forward: Five consecutive days below fat target (39g / 60g / 58.5g / 77g / May 1 TBD vs 105-108g target). Today is the last corrective window before the Shanghai flight. Standalone daily nutrition plan at athlete/logs/daily-nutrition/2026-05-01.md referenced; not duplicated.

Evening pass

  • Session outcome: Unconfirmed. TP MCP unavailable. Legacy scripts (scripts/tp_check.js, scripts/tp_last_activity.js) returned MODULE_NOT_FOUND. No athlete session report received in today's messages. Evidence source: none.
  • Morning note: Present. Used as primary source for session prescription and readiness context.
  • Specialist input freshness: Recovery section empty in today's canonical log; used morning plan context and bridge-week back-soreness history as fallback. Endurance section empty; used rolling-7-day and morning plan context. Nutrition fully logged with day-end totals.
  • Nutrition day totals: 2,170 kcal, 236.9g carbs, 102.4g protein, 90.5g fat. Fat improved from 77g (Apr 30) to 90.5g but remained below 108g target for the fifth consecutive day. Protein at 102.4g, below 112g target.
  • Tomorrow: May 2 is China travel day per travel-schedule.md. No rolling-7-day entry for May 2 (window ends May 1). No structured training stabilization required. Rolling-3-week next block begins May 17.
  • Specialists consulted for evening note: recovery (back soreness carry-forward, pre-travel sleep, flight tomorrow), endurance (session outcome classification, bridge week close-out), nutrition (day-end totals, fat and protein gap, pre-flight fueling).

Status

Morning-after nutrition review for review target 2026-04-30. Sidney executed an implied 1-hour easy recovery ride (deduced from the 13:52 post-ride meal report: "After a 1hr recovery ride"; no formal session report received). Daily totals: ~2,669 kcal, 437 g carbs, 92 g protein, 77 g fat. Fat improved from 58.5 g (April 29) to 77 g — the right direction — but fell 28 g short of the 105 g target, marking a fourth consecutive day below the fat minimum heading into China departure (May 2). Carbohydrate came in at 437 g against a 252 g target for a low-load recovery day — heavily oversupplied, driven primarily by 10 Medjool dates at dinner and a high-carb evening smoothie bowl. Protein dropped from 133 g (April 29) to 92 g, falling below the 112 g target and leaving two consecutive low-protein days going into travel.

Observations

  • Fat moved in the right direction: 77 g vs. 58.5 g on April 29. The improvement came from PB at dinner and the smoothie bowl — incidental sources rather than deliberate fat-anchor meals (salmon, avocado, olive oil). The target was 105 g; the 28 g gap did not close.
  • Carbohydrate at 437 g was 185 g over the daily target for a Z1-Z2 recovery day. Dinner (10 dates, rice, crackers) and the evening smoothie bowl together delivered ~312 g carbs in a single evening window — proportioning appropriate for a hard training day, not active recovery.
  • Protein fell to 92 g: the post-ride chicken meal (38.8 g) was the only meaningful protein anchor. Dinner (19.5 g from PB, dates, crackers) and the smoothie bowl (17 g) provided marginal protein. No high-protein evening anchor was present.
  • Session load was minimal — 1hr easy recovery Z1-Z2, fueling stakes low. Energy at 2,669 kcal was generous for the day's actual workload.

Recommendations

  • Today's primary focus (May 1): fat and protein correction — last opportunity before China. Today is the final normal eating day before a 15-hour flight. The May 1 nutrition plan targets 108 g fat and 112 g protein. Fat must anchor every meal: eggs and avocado at breakfast, salmon or a fatty protein at lunch or dinner, olive oil and nuts throughout. Protein needs two or three strong anchor meals (25-40 g each), not relying on PB or dates.
  • Carbohydrate can increase today — today's session (1:45-2:00 with openers at 75-82% FTP) is materially harder than yesterday's recovery spin. Pre-session fueling: 50-70 g carbs 60-90 min before. On-bike: 40-60 g/hr given the light opener format. Evening carbs can be moderate, not a repeat of 300+ g post-session.
  • Today's goal: Fat ≥ 100-108 g. Five consecutive days of fat deficit compounding into two weeks of travel, time zone disruption, and unfamiliar food amplifies immune and hormonal risk — this is the last corrective window.

Watch

  • Five consecutive days below fat target (39 g → 60 g → 58.5 g → 77 g → May 1 TBD). The trend is upward but the cumulative deficit is real. In a Hashimoto's context, chronic fat underfueling affects T4→T3 conversion efficiency and anti-inflammatory balance — arriving in Shanghai already depleted adds immune stress on top of jet lag.
  • Protein dip on a rest day (92 g) is not alarming in isolation, but it follows a hard session day (April 29: 133 g). Two low-protein days back-to-back going into 14 days without cycling is worth correcting today before the window closes.
  • The late-evening snack-style eating pattern (21:46 and 22:09) produced a high-carb, lower-fat, lower-protein dinner across both nights. For recovery and thyroid function, a structured higher-quality dinner before 20:00 would serve Sidney better. Not correctable before China, but worth resetting on return.
  • Back soreness: still active as of April 30 (massage at 22:13, first confirmed therapeutic intervention). Anti-inflammatory food choices today — salmon, walnuts, chia, omega-3 sources — are directly relevant.

Carry-forward

Review target Intake Training context Main gap Carry-forward goal
2026-04-30 ~2,669 kcal, 437 g carbs, 92 g protein, 77 g fat 1hr implied easy recovery Z1-Z2 (post-ride meal logged at 13:52; no formal session report received); low training load day Fat at 77 g — fourth consecutive day below target (≥105 g); protein at 92 g below 112 g target; carbs significantly over at 437 g vs. 252 g target Today (May 1): fat ≥ 100-108 g as primary priority; two or three strong protein-anchor meals (25-40 g each); pre-session and on-bike carb timing structured around the 1:45-2:00 endurance opener session

Toast with peanut butter and berry jam: 1 slice toast, 35 g; peanut butter, 32 g; jam, 25 g
Plain toast: 1 slice, 35 g
Assumptions Both slices are standard sandwich bread (~35 g each), either white or light wholegrain; macros are similar between the two
Peanut butter is standard variety (not reduced fat or natural-only); 35 g is used based on visibly thick, edge-to-edge coverage
Jam is standard berry jam (not reduced sugar or no-sugar); 30 g used based on visibly heavy application
Second slice is plain with no toppings, based on photo and description
No butter or additional spread under the peanut butter
Bread is standard sliced white sandwich bread, ~30 g per slice
Peanut butter is a standard commercial variety (not reduced-fat or natural with different macros)
Jam is a standard sugar-sweetened berry jam
The second slice of toast is plain with no toppings (only partially visible, difficult to confirm)
Both slices are counted as consumed
The second visible plain toast was consumed
Bread is standard sliced toast
Peanut butter layer is generous but not extremely thick
Jam amount is moderate to generous
Uncertainty notes Peanut butter quantity is the largest variable; the layer appears generous and could range from 25 g to 45 g, shifting calories by roughly 60 kcal and fat by ~5 g in either direction
Jam quantity could range from 20 g to 40 g depending on how much soaked into the peanut butter layer
Bread type (white vs wholegrain vs thick-cut) could shift carbohydrate and fibre modestly but does not materially change total calories
The second toast slice is only partially visible; if it also has toppings, the total would increase. If it was not eaten, subtract ~80 kcal. The peanut butter amount could range from 20–30 g depending on thickness, which would shift calories by ±30 kcal and fat by ±3 g. The peanut butter quantity is the largest uncertainty and could materially change calories and fat.

Assumptions Bread is a standard medium white or whole wheat sandwich slice (32 g)
Eggs are large (
50 g each), cooked with no or minimal added fat
Spinach is raw, approximately 15 g (equivalent of 1/960 mL loosely packed)
No butter, oil, or seasoning added beyond negligible amounts
Eggs are fried in approximately 5 mL of oil or butter
Bread is a standard slice of sandwich bread (30 g)
Spinach is raw; if cooked with added fat, calories and fat would increase slightly
1/960 mL spinach interpreted as
30 g raw leaf spinach
Bread is a typical single slice or small piece of plain bread
Eggs are standard whole eggs
Spinach is raw or lightly wilted with no meaningful added fat
No butter, oil, cheese, or sauce included
Uncertainty notes Bread type (white, whole wheat, sourdough, thick-cut) could shift carbohydrate by 5-10 g and calories by up to 30 kcal
If eggs were fried with butter or oil, fat could increase by 5-10 g and calories by 45-90 kcal
Portion of bread could vary significantly if it is a thick or artisan slice
Egg preparation method is the largest variable; scrambled with butter or boiled without oil would shift fat and calories by roughly 30–50 kcal
Bread type matters: a thick artisan slice could add 40–60 kcal over standard sandwich bread
Added cooking fat or a larger bread portion could materially increase calories and fat.

Food description Flat white with almond milk Flat white with almond milk Flat white with almond milk
Portion summary Flat white with almond milk: 180 mL (standard flat white, two espresso shots plus steamed milk) Flat white with almond milk: ~200 mL total (double espresso ~60 mL, steamed almond milk ~140 mL) Flat white with almond milk: 180 mL total drink, including about 120 mL almond milk
Assumptions Standard flat white size of approximately 180 mL
Two shots of espresso (60 mL), remainder almond milk (120 mL)
Unsweetened barista-style almond milk used, approximately 13 kcal per 100 mL
No added sugar, syrups, or flavourings
Espresso contributes negligible macros (~5 kcal, <1 g carbohydrate)
Standard café flat white using a double espresso shot with approximately 140 mL steamed unsweetened almond milk
Almond milk is unsweetened barista-style (approximately 13 kcal per 100 mL)
No added sugar or flavourings
Macro cross-check: (1 × 4) + (6 × 4) + (2 × 9) = 4 + 24 + 18 = 46 kcal, consistent with the 50 kcal estimate within rounding
Cafe-style flat white made with espresso and barista-style almond milk
Espresso contributes negligible calories and macronutrients
Almond milk is not labelled, so values are based on typical barista almond milk
Uncertainty notes Sweetened almond milk or added syrups would increase carbohydrate and calories meaningfully; a flavoured version could add 50-80 kcal
Some barista almond milk blends are higher in calories than standard unsweetened almond milk; if a higher-calorie blend was used, total could reach 60-70 kcal
Drink size varies by cafe; a larger 220 mL serve would proportionally increase all values
Sweetened almond milk would add approximately 20–30 kcal and 4–6 g additional carbohydrate
Cup size varies by café; a larger serving (e.g., 300 mL) could increase values by roughly 40–50%
Sweetened almond milk or a larger drink size could materially increase calories and carbohydrate.

Balsamic reduction: 15 g
Assumptions GF focaccia estimated as a rice/tapioca starch-based bread, which tends to be slightly higher in carbohydrate and moderate in fat compared to wheat focaccia; oil content assumed moderate (not heavily oiled)
Prosciutto assumed as standard thinly sliced cured prosciutto crudo, ~3-4 slices for a restaurant-sized sandwich
Pine nut quantity estimated from visible scatter consistent with ~20 g
Fig jam estimated as a restaurant-portioned spread, approximately 2 generous spoonfuls
Balsamic reduction assumed to be concentrated (roughly 3:1 reduction), approximately 15 mL drizzle
No cheese, butter, or additional spreads assumed beyond what is described
GF focaccia estimated at ~280 kcal per 100 g, which is typical for oil-enriched gluten-free flatbreads made with rice/tapioca flour blends
Prosciutto estimated as ~4–5 thin slices layered generously based on visible edges
Pine nuts estimated conservatively at ~15 g (a scattered handful); could be up to 20 g
Fig jam spread estimated as a thin layer (20 g) across one bread surface
Balsamic reduction drizzle estimated at
15 mL
Sandwich was consumed as shown
Gluten-free focaccia is oil-containing and denser than standard sandwich bread
Prosciutto portion is moderate to generous
Pine nuts, fig jam, and balsamic reduction are present in typical cafe sandwich amounts
Uncertainty notes GF focaccia weight and oil content are the largest variables; a heavily oiled GF focaccia could add 50-80 kcal; a lighter version could reduce by similar margin
Prosciutto quantity is hard to assess from photo alone; a heavier portion (80 g) would add ~50 kcal and ~9 g protein
Pine nut quantity could range from 15-30 g, changing fat and calories meaningfully
Overall plausible range is approximately 700-950 kcal
The GF focaccia bread is the dominant calorie and carbohydrate source; if thicker or oilier than estimated, total calories could be 50–80 kcal higher
Pine nut quantity is difficult to assess from the exterior photo; a heavier portion (20–25 g) would add ~35–65 kcal mostly from fat
Fig jam quantity is not visible and could range from 15–30 g, shifting carbohydrate by ±5 g
The largest uncertainty is the focaccia weight and oil content; a larger or more oil-rich bun could raise the estimate by 150 to 250 kcal.

Fig jam: 50 kcal, 0 g protein, 12 g carbohydrate, 0 g fat
Balsamic reduction: 30 kcal, 0 g protein, 7 g carbohydrate, 0 g fat
Gluten free focaccia sandwich: approximately 330 g total
Assumptions GF focaccia estimated as a dense rice/tapioca/starch-based bread with added olive oil, consistent with typical GF focaccia products; heavier and more calorie-dense per gram than standard wheat focaccia
Prosciutto assumed as standard-thickness deli prosciutto, generous layering for a restaurant-style sandwich
Pine nuts estimated at a small scattered handful; visible in photo but quantity modest
Fig jam assumed as a standard commercial or house-made sweetened preserve at ~250 kcal per 100 g
Balsamic reduction treated as concentrated syrup (~200 kcal per 100 mL) at a light drizzle portion
No added oil or condiments beyond what is described
GF focaccia estimated at ~295 kcal/100 g, typical of artisan GF focaccia made with rice flour, tapioca starch, and olive oil
Prosciutto portion estimated as a generous deli-style layer (70 g, roughly 4–5 thin slices)
Pine nuts estimated conservatively at
15 g (a light scatter)
Fig jam estimated at ~20 g (a thin spread on the bottom bread surface)
Balsamic reduction estimated at ~15 mL drizzle
Gluten free focaccia bread estimated at approximately 180 g
Prosciutto estimated at approximately 50 g
Arugula estimated at approximately 25 g
Pine nuts estimated at approximately 10 g
Fig jam estimated at approximately 30 g
Balsamic reduction estimated at approximately 15 g
Uncertainty notes GF focaccia calorie density is the largest variable; some GF focaccia products are notably higher in starch and fat due to oil content and binding agents, which could push bread calories to 480-500 kcal for this portion
If prosciutto layering is heavier than estimated (e.g., 80 g), protein adds ~8 g and fat adds ~5 g
Pine nut quantity is difficult to judge precisely; a larger portion (25 g) would add ~50 kcal and 3 g fat
Overall range approximately 680-850 kcal depending on bread density and filling quantities
The GF focaccia is the dominant calorie source; if the bread is lighter/airier than estimated (closer to 150 g) the total could drop to ~780 kcal, or if heavier/oilier (220 g) it could reach 960 kcal
The amount of olive oil in or on the focaccia is not visible and could add 40–90 kcal per 15 mL if the bread was heavily oiled
Main uncertainty is the focaccia weight and oil content, which could materially change calories and fat.

Assumptions Standard sandwich bread used (white or whole wheat, one slice)
Peanut butter is standard creamy or crunchy, not reduced-fat or natural with extra oil
Jam is standard fruit jam or jelly, not a reduced-sugar variety
Moderate spread amounts assumed; generous spreading would increase peanut butter to ~40 g and fat by ~5 g
Single slice of standard sandwich bread
Peanut butter spread is approximately 20g (one generous layer)
Jam spread is approximately 20g
Standard commercial peanut butter (not reduced fat or natural high-oil variety)
Standard strawberry or mixed fruit jam
One standard slice of toast
Moderate spread of peanut butter
Moderate spread of jam
Standard peanut butter and fruit jam used
Uncertainty notes Peanut butter quantity is the most variable factor; a heavy spread could add 50-80 kcal and 4-6 g fat
Bread type and slice thickness could shift carbohydrate by 5-10 g
Jam quantity has lower impact but could vary by 10-20 kcal depending on sweetness and brand
Number of slices is the largest variable; two slices would roughly double the estimate. Thick vs thin spread of peanut butter could shift calories by ±50 kcal. Portion size and spread thickness could materially change the estimate, especially the peanut butter amount.

3g each
Chicken breast is skinless based on appearance
Chicken weight is treated as cooked weight
About 5 g olive oil was retained on the sweet potato
Fresh vegetables were a small non-starchy side portion
Olives were typical small to medium olives
Uncertainty notes Vegetable composition and quantity are unspecified; a larger or starchier vegetable portion could add 10-40 kcal and 2-8g carbohydrate
Olive oil absorbed fraction is an estimate; if more oil was used or less was absorbed, fat could vary by ±3-5g
If 72g is raw sweet potato weight rather than cooked, the cooked weight would be lower and macros slightly reduced
The type and quantity of fresh vegetables is unspecified; if starchy or dressed, carbohydrate and fat could be higher
Olive oil quantity is estimated; if the sweet potatoes were generously coated, fat could increase by 5–10g
If 72g is raw weight rather than cooked, sweet potato calories would be slightly higher (~65 kcal raw vs the estimated 65 kcal cooked — minimal difference at this portion size)
Main uncertainty is the amount of olive oil retained and whether the chicken weight was raw or cooked.

Morning plan

Today's Plan

**Readiness:** Unconfirmed: no morning check-in, back soreness status unresolved after April 30 massage, April 30 session outcome unconfirmed.

**Today's plan:**
Pre-travel endurance with openers, 1:30-1:45. Easy endurance throughout, with 4x3 min at upper Z2 to low tempo (75-82% FTP) to keep the legs awake before tomorrow's flight. Given unconfirmed readiness, stay at the shorter end of the range unless you feel genuinely good from the start. If back soreness is still limiting, shorten to an easy 45-60 min spin or skip it and walk instead. China is tomorrow: do not aggravate the back on this session.

**Fueling:**
Pre-session: 50-70g carbs, 60-90 min before the ride. On-bike: 40-60g carbs per hour. Your standalone nutrition plan for today is ready. Fat is the primary priority at your meals today, the last full food day before the flight.

**Weather:**
Edmonton ☁️
17°C / 7°C, overcast

Currently 9°C, climbing through mid-morning and peaking near 17°C by mid-afternoon. No rain, light wind up to 20 km/h. Best outdoor window from 11:00 onward.

**Monitor:**
Back: how is it responding after yesterday's massage? Normal muscle tightness and you are clear to ride. Still sharp, referring, or affecting movement, get it assessed today before tomorrow's flight. Do not board a 15-hour flight with an unassessed sharp or referring back issue.

Evening summary

Evening Summary

Today's planned session: pre-travel endurance with openers, 1:30-1:45, with 4x3 min at upper Z2 to low tempo.

**Session status:** Unconfirmed. No ride data or session report received today. If you completed the session, the structure was appropriate for a pre-travel day. If you adjusted or skipped due to back soreness or travel prep, that was the right call.

**Feedback:**
Nutrition was steady throughout the day. You finished at roughly 2,170 kcal, 237g carbs, 102g protein, and 90g fat. Fat improved from 77g yesterday, so the trend was moving in the right direction, but the full correction to 108g didn't close on the last day before travel. The dinner was the best anchor of the day: chicken, sweet potato, and olives. Five consecutive days below the fat target is the carry-forward concern heading into China.

**Recovery:**
Tonight is the window that matters before tomorrow's flight. Sleep is the priority. Hydrate steadily through the evening and start tomorrow morning well-fueled. If there is room for a small snack before bed, lean toward fat and protein rather than carbs: nuts, nut butter, or a small piece of cheese will serve you better.

Back: keep movement gentle tonight. No loading before boarding.

**Tomorrow preview:**
Travel day to Shanghai. No structured training. Use layover and boarding windows for short walks to manage stiffness on the long-haul. Plan for consistent hydration on the flight, around 250-500 mL per hour in the cabin.

**Monitor:**
Back status before boarding. Fat intake has been below target for five consecutive days heading into two weeks without cycling. Prioritize high-fat options during travel when food quality allows.

Nutrition review

April 30 was genuine progress on fat — 77g is a clear improvement over the 58.5g the day before, and it shows the direction is right. But the target was 105g, and the gap didn't close on the one day specifically set aside for fat correction. With China tomorrow, today is the final window.

**What went well:**
- Fat trended upward for the first time this bridge week: 58.5g → 77g. The smoothie bowl and PB contributed real fat, and the trajectory is clearly moving.
- Post-ride protein was solid — 38.8g from the chicken and rice hit the recovery window well for a low-load session.
- Energy was well above minimum and intake was spread across the day.

**What needs work:**
- Dinner was snack-style again: dates, rice, crackers, and PB as the evening anchor. Over 300g of carbs across dinner and the smoothie bowl, minimal fat beyond what PB contributed, and protein at dinner was marginal. On a day that needed a fat-and-protein-anchored meal, the evening drifted toward sugar instead.
- Protein came in at 92g against a 112g target. After 133g the day before, that's a significant drop — and back-to-back low-protein days going into two weeks without cycling is worth correcting today.

**Tomorrow's goal:**
Fat ≥ 100g today — your last real food day before the flight. Fat must anchor every meal: eggs and avocado at breakfast, salmon or a higher-fat protein at lunch or dinner, olive oil used generously, and nuts rather than dates as the snack.

**Next step:**
Pre-session fueling for today's endurance opener: 50-70g carbs 60-90 min before you ride. On-bike: 40-60g carbs per hour for the 1:45-2:00 with openers. Use tonight's dinner as the fat and protein anchor — not a snack plate.
