Status

Review target: 2026-05-25. The nutrition day was workable by the end, but it was not as strong as the training and health context needed. Sidney completed 2 hours endurance while actively managing a multi-day SI/back flare, so the day shifted from threshold-fueling demand to symptom-led aerobic durability and recovery support. Estimated intake landed around 2,079 kcal, 290.5 g carbohydrate, 77.6 g protein, and 71.9 g fat. Carbohydrate became reasonable once the snack and dinner were included, but protein distribution was thin early and total protein was only moderate for a rider trying to absorb training while dealing with pain and inflammation.

Observations

  • The planned threshold session did not happen; Sidney reported 2 hours endurance while keeping the back in check. That lowers carbohydrate demand compared with the original plan, but it does not remove the need for steady recovery nutrition.
  • Carbohydrate availability finished in a reasonable range for an active endurance day, especially after dinner and the later snack were added.
  • Protein improved across the day but was back-loaded and likely still modest for recovery support: breakfast was very low protein, the 09:22 meal corrected part of that, dinner was the best protein hit, and the snack was mostly carbohydrate/fat.
  • Given Hashimoto's history and the current SI/back flare with radiating symptoms earlier in the week, this is not a week to drift into low-energy availability or inconsistent protein. Durability and health protection matter more than squeezing intake down.

Recommendations

  • Keep May 26 simple and recovery-supportive: normal meals, no catch-up restriction, and a clear protein anchor early because breakfast was again mostly carbohydrate.
  • For today's easy back-check spin, fuel normally rather than aggressively; if the ride reaches 60 minutes or breakfast remains light, carry a small carbohydrate option and hydrate steadily.
  • Build at least three protein feedings across today, aiming for a stronger first half of the day rather than relying on dinner to rescue the total.
  • Tomorrow nutrition goal: make the first two feedings protein-anchored while keeping carbohydrate available for any easy endurance, so the back-check day supports healing instead of adding another recovery debt.

Watch

  • The biggest risk is not one imperfect day; it is repeated low-protein mornings and late-day catch-up during a week already complicated by pain, travel-return load, and a planned rebuild.
  • The snack estimate is low-confidence because portions were vague, so May 25 total energy may be meaningfully higher or lower than shown. The coaching read still holds: carbohydrate was adequate by the end, protein timing was the main weakness.
  • If pain, stiffness, or leg symptoms return today, nutrition should stay recovery-oriented even if training load is reduced; less riding does not mean under-eating during a flare.

Carry-forward

Review target Intake Training context Main gap Carry-forward goal
2026-05-25 ~2079 kcal, 290.5 g carbs, 77.6 g protein, 71.9 g fat Planned threshold became 2 h endurance while managing SI/back symptoms Protein was too light and too back-loaded for recovery during a pain flare On 2026-05-26, anchor breakfast/follow-up with protein, eat normally around the easy back-check spin, and avoid turning reduced training into reduced recovery intake

Portion summary Pancake: 70 g
Maple syrup: 20 g
Strawberries: 90 g
Pancake: ~75 g cooked (approximately 13–14 cm diameter, thin)
Maple syrup: ~25 mL (light-to-moderate drizzle visible)
Strawberries: ~100 g total (6 medium strawberries)
Pancake (1 medium): 170 kcal, 4 g protein, 22 g carbohydrate, 7 g fat
Maple syrup (~25 mL): 65 kcal, 0 g protein, 17 g carbohydrate, 0 g fat
Strawberries (6, ~100 g): 32 kcal, 1 g protein, 8 g carbohydrate, 0 g fat
Plain pancake: 70 g
Maple syrup: 15 g
Strawberries: 90 g
Assumptions Pancake is a small homemade or mix-based pancake of about 70 g
Maple syrup portion is about 20 g based on visible drizzle and pooling
Six strawberries are medium-sized, about 90 g total edible portion
Calories are broadly consistent with macro totals using 4/4/9 kcal per gram
Pancake is a standard homemade batter pancake (flour, egg, milk, oil/butter), not a protein or specialty pancake
Syrup is real maple syrup, not a light or sugar-free variant; drizzle estimated at ~25 mL based on visible gloss
Strawberries are medium-sized (~16–17 g each)
No butter or additional toppings beneath the strawberries
The pancake is a single small-to-medium homemade-style pancake without visible butter.
The visible syrup represents approximately 15 g maple syrup.
The 6 strawberries are medium-sized and total approximately 90 g.
Macro-derived calories are approximately 240 kcal using standard conversion factors, broadly consistent with the rounded food estimate.
Uncertainty notes Pancake recipe and syrup amount could materially change the estimate, especially if the pancake contains added fat or the syrup portion was larger than visible. Syrup quantity is the main uncertainty; if closer to 40 mL, total calories would increase by ~40 kcal and carbohydrate by ~10 g
If butter was used under the strawberries (not visible), fat and calories would be higher
The main uncertainty is the pancake recipe and the amount of maple syrup; added butter, oil, or more syrup could materially increase calories and fat.

1/4 small avocado (~35 g): 55 kcal, 1 g protein, 3 g carbohydrate, 5 g fat
Eggs: 100 g
Spinach: 30 g
Avocado: 25 g edible portion
Assumptions Eggs were standard large eggs
Spinach portion was small, about 30 g
No meaningful added butter, oil, cream, or cheese was used
One-quarter of a small avocado provided about 35 g edible flesh
Eggs are large-sized and pan-fried with a small amount of oil or butter (~5 g fat added)
Spinach is a modest side portion, lightly cooked
Small avocado is approximately 140 g flesh total, so 1/4 is roughly 35 g
No additional oil, butter, or seasoning beyond minimal cooking fat
Eggs were prepared without added oil or butter
Spinach portion was approximately 30 g and prepared without added fat
Avocado edible portion was approximately 25 g
Pancakes are not included because no portion or composition was provided
Macro-derived energy is broadly consistent with the calorie estimate, allowing for rounding and fibre
Uncertainty notes The main uncertainty is whether the eggs were cooked with added fat and how much spinach was included. A larger avocado portion or added cooking oil could materially increase calories and fat. Cooking method for eggs is the largest variable; scrambled in butter or poached would shift fat and calories by ±30–50 kcal
If additional cooking oil or butter was used for the spinach, fat could increase by 3–5 g
Added cooking fat or a larger spinach or avocado portion could materially increase the calorie and fat estimate.

Nutrition review

Yesterday ended up much more like a recovery-support day than the threshold day we originally planned. The 2-hour endurance ride while managing the back still needed proper fueling, and by the end your carbohydrate intake was workable. The main gap was protein timing: too light early, then mostly recovered later through the eggs and dinner. With the SI/back flare in the picture, we want recovery to be steady, not late-day catch-up.

**What went well:**
- You got enough carbohydrate across the full day to support an active endurance day.
- Dinner was a useful recovery meal, with a proper protein hit plus rice for carbohydrate.

**What needs work:**
- Breakfast was very low protein, and the day relied too much on later meals to correct that.
- During a back/SI flare, underfueling or inconsistent protein is not worth the risk; recovery support matters even when training is reduced.

**Tomorrow's goal:**
For today's easy back-check day, make the first half of the day protein-anchored: add a clear protein source after breakfast and get at least three protein feedings across the day.

**Next step:**
Before or after the easy spin, pair normal carbohydrate with 25-30 g protein, hydrate steadily, and do not treat the shorter ride as a reason to eat less.

Nutrition reply - 15:23 post-ride meal

Thanks, that gives you a pretty solid post-ride carb refeed.

**Breakdown:**
This is a strong carbohydrate recovery meal after 2 h endurance and it should help glycogen replacement well. The main gap is protein: it is helpful, but still a bit light for optimal recovery, so the best upgrade is another protein hit within the next 1-2 hours.

**Macros:**
- Energy: ~657 kcal
- Carbohydrate: ~103.3 g
- Protein: ~19.8 g
- Fat: ~19.8 g

**Daily totals (estimated):**
- Energy: ~1103 kcal
- Carbohydrate: ~153 g
- Protein: ~39.2 g
- Fat: ~40.5 g

**Feedback:**
Good job getting a big carb refeed in right after the ride. Add another ~10-15 g protein soon and keep dinner protein-forward so the day does not stay light for recovery. Granola amount and the orange chicken recipe can move the estimate a bit, but the overall read stays the same.
