Readiness check
Received: 08:26 MDT Athlete status: Feeling okay. Sleep: 6.5 hours last night (after 10.5 hours the night before - jet lag rebound pattern, night 2 Edmonton re-adaptation). Back status: Not reported this message. Nutrition: May 17 dinner logged this morning: Smokey, spinach salad, corn on the cob, 4 medjool dates, ~15g peanut butter (~828 kcal, 104g CHO, 21.7g PRO, 42g FAT). First confirmed intake in 13 days.
Morning plan notes
Readiness classification: Amber Triggers: Back status not reported in today's check-in (still unresolved since April 30, 18+ days). Gym component remains contingent on back confirmation. Z2 ride proceeds at full planned intensity. Sleep at 6.5h is adequate for Z2 demand; jet lag night 2 rebound pattern is consistent with expected recovery arc. "Feeling okay" is a positive signal.
Specialist participation: Recovery (jet lag, back soreness, gym contingency), endurance (Z2 session structure and cadence prescription), nutrition (fueling guidance, 13-day gap, standalone plan exists), strength (return-to-strength prescription and back-contingency modification).
Session confirmed: Z2 endurance 1:45-2:00, 65-75% FTP, 6 x 1 min fast cadence at 95-105 rpm (second half, 2 min easy between). Return-to-strength 25-35 min after the ride. Gym: hinge (2-3 x 5-6), split-stance (2 x 5 each side), trunk stability (6-8 min), calf/foot-ankle work. Hinge contingency: if back symptomatic before gym, skip hinge and run trunk + calf only.
Nutrition plan: Standalone daily nutrition plan confirmed present at athlete/logs/daily-nutrition/2026-05-18.md. Fueling targets: 45-60 g CHO pre-ride (1-2 hr out), 45-60 g CHO/hr on-bike, carbohydrate + protein within 30 min post-ride (before strength). Full logging of today's intake requested.
Weather: Open-Meteo Edmonton (53.55°N, 113.45°W). High 15.6°C / low 2.5°C. WMO 1 (mainly clear). 0 mm precipitation. Max wind 7.1 km/h. Currently ~5.3°C at 08:30 MDT (RH 89%), warming to ~15-16°C by mid-afternoon. Clear all day. Dress for cool start.

Evening pass notes
Session-outcome certainty: Unconfirmed Evidence source: None. TP MCP server path not available (directory not found). Legacy TP scripts not present. No athlete session report received since 12:38 check-in. No messages from Sidney since the bagel log at 12:38 MDT. Morning note: Present and complete. Used as primary session context. Specialist input staleness:
- Recovery: no current-day entry in
## Recovery; endurance and recovery context carried from morning plan notes and rolling-7-day. - Endurance: no current-day entry in
## Endurance; session prescription sourced from morning plan and rolling-7-day. - Nutrition: current-day entries present through 12:38. On-bike and post-ride fueling unconfirmed. Daily totals as of 20:00: ~1,079 kcal, 190g CHO, 46g PRO, 22g FAT -- substantially below plan targets (3,000 kcal, 341g CHO, 105g PRO, 135g FAT). Fat tracking critically low.
- Strength: no current-day entry in
## Strength; gym outcome unconfirmed. Specialist participation decision: Recovery, endurance, nutrition, and strength all materially relevant (session outcome unconfirmed, fueling gap, back/gym status unknown, tomorrow's tempo session readiness). All four consulted via internal context from daily log and rolling files. Tomorrow (May 19) rolling-7-day status: No change warranted without session confirmation. Tempo session stands as written with explicit contingency (2 x 8 min if sleep poor). Nutrition tracking gap noted as carry-forward risk.

Status
Review target: 2026-05-17. May 17 was Sidney's first day back on the bike after the Shanghai block (May 2–16). The planned session was a recovery spin of 60–75 min easy aerobic. Session outcome remains unconfirmed — no athlete check-in, no TrainingPeaks data, and no session report was received. Nutrition intake for May 17 is entirely unlogged — the thirteenth consecutive day without confirmed nutrition data, extending through the full Shanghai block, the return day, and now the first day home with a full kitchen available. The morning plan and nutrition review for May 17 were composed but not delivered (operator gate active all day); Sidney received only the evening summary at 20:03 MDT. The operational weight of May 17's gap has escalated: today (May 18) carries a substantial training demand — Z2 endurance 1:45–2:00 plus return-to-strength — with zero verified fueling foundation for the preceding two weeks.
Observations
- No intake logged for May 17 — thirteenth consecutive day. The re-entry day produced no nutrition data despite a full home kitchen being available for the first time since early May.
- Session outcome is unconfirmed. Pre-session carbohydrate, any on-bike fueling, and post-ride recovery intake are all unknown. Whether the recovery spin happened at all is not established.
- May 17's morning nutrition guidance was never received by the athlete (operator gate). The evening summary prompted a real carbohydrate meal, fat sources, and early sleep — whether that guidance was acted on is unknown.
- Fat ≥ 100 g correction: unverified for 13 consecutive days. Home kitchen access was restored May 16 but no evidence confirms the floor has been met on any day since.
Recommendations
- Pre-ride breakfast is non-negotiable today (May 18): 45–60 g carbohydrate, 1–2 hours before the Z2 session. This is a 1:45–2:00 ride with strength to follow. Starting under-fueled is not acceptable with this load.
- Active on-bike fueling during the Z2 session: 45–60 g carbohydrate per hour minimum. Two bars, gels, or equivalent. A session this length requires more than a pre-ride meal alone.
- Post-ride recovery within 30 minutes of finishing the bike, before the strength session: carbohydrate + protein. This is the most time-sensitive window of the day.
- Log May 18 fully — pre-ride, on-bike, and post-ride at minimum. Thirteen consecutive days without data means one complete logged day would materially change the team's entire working picture for the re-entry block.
Watch
- Thirteen days without confirmed intake entering a session with ~950 kcal exercise energy expenditure (bike + strength combined per nutrition plan) is a meaningful risk. If today's Z2 effort feels flat, heavy, or harder than expected at 65–75% FTP, cumulative under-fueling should be the first explanation considered — not detraining or jet lag alone.
- Hashimoto's T4→T3 conversion support remains unverified across the entire Shanghai block plus the first two days home. Unusual fatigue or sluggish adaptation in re-entry sessions should not be attributed solely to fitness loss without ruling out nutritional deficit.
- Back soreness (unresolved since April 30 — now 18+ days) may have been aggravated by sustained seated travel posture across multiple long-haul flight legs. Whether Sidney completed any mobility reset on May 17 is unknown. Strength prescription for today remains back-status-contingent.
- Meal timing anchor: jet lag reversal night 2 completes tonight. Appetite may still be shifted. Meals should be anchored to the clock for sessions, not to hunger cues — particularly the pre-ride breakfast.

Morning plan
Today's Plan
**Readiness:** Amber - back status not reported in this morning's check-in; gym component contingent on back confirmation. Z2 ride proceeds.
**Today's plan:**
Z2 endurance, 1:45-2:00. Road, Edmonton, 65-75% FTP. Include 6 x 1 min fast cadence at 95-105 rpm in the second half, 2 min easy between each rep. Keep the whole ride conversational.
After the ride: return-to-strength, 25-35 min. One hinge lift (2-3 x 5-6 reps), one split-stance pattern (2 x 5 each side), trunk stability (6-8 min), calf and foot-ankle work (2-3 short sets). Leave 2-3 reps in reserve on all loaded sets. If back is symptomatic before you start the gym session, skip the hinge and run trunk and calf only.
**Fueling:**
Your daily nutrition plan is ready. Pre-ride: 45-60 g carbohydrate, 1-2 hours before. On-bike: 45-60 g carbohydrate per hour minimum. Recovery: carbohydrate and protein within 30 min of finishing the ride, before the strength session. This window is the most time-sensitive of the day. Log pre-ride, on-bike, and post-ride today - one complete logged day resets the team's entire working picture.
**Weather:**
Edmonton ☀️
15.6°C / 2.5°C, mainly clear
No precipitation, light wind to 7 km/h. Starting around 5°C this morning, warming to near 16°C by mid-afternoon. Dress for the cool start; the second half of the ride will feel significantly warmer than the first.
**Monitor:**
- Back: note how it feels before the gym session. If symptoms have escalated (sharp, referring, or affecting movement quality), skip the hinge and go trunk and calf only. A brief update when you're back is useful.

Nutrition review
May 17 has no logged intake — that's thirteen consecutive days in a row, now including your first day back on the bike and your first full day home with a working kitchen. Whether you ate before the recovery spin, during it, or after it is unknown on this end. The session outcome itself is also unconfirmed. What that means practically: the team is going into today's Z2 endurance session — nearly two hours on the bike plus strength — without any verified fueling picture from the past two weeks. That changes today.
**What went well:**
- A recovery spin at easy aerobic effort is low enough demand that a single under-fueled day carries limited acute damage on its own. If the spin happened, it did its job regardless of what you ate around it.
- The home kitchen has been available since May 16. The tools to re-establish consistent fueling — salmon, eggs, avocado, oats, walnuts — are all back within reach.
**What needs work:**
- Thirteen days without logged intake means fat floor status, Hashimoto's support, and energy balance are still completely unverified. One fully logged day resets the entire picture.
- Today is the first real training demand of the re-entry week: 1:45–2:00 Z2 plus a strength session means active fueling is required — pre-ride, on-bike, and post-ride all matter in a way yesterday's easy spin did not.
**Tomorrow's goal:**
Log today fully: a confirmed pre-ride breakfast with 45–60 g of carbohydrate 1–2 hours before the ride, active on-bike fueling during the Z2 session (45–60 g carbohydrate per hour — two bars or equivalent), and a recovery meal with carbohydrate and protein within 30 minutes of finishing the bike. This is the single most important nutrition action of the re-entry week.
**Next step:**
Eat before you ride today — oats, toast with fruit, or similar. Bring fuel for the bike: a session this long needs on-board carbohydrate, not just a pre-ride meal. Recovery intake before any strength work.

Evening summary
Evening Summary
Today's planned session - Z2 endurance 1:45-2:00 plus return-to-strength - is unconfirmed on our end. No TrainingPeaks upload and no session report have come through yet. If you completed the ride and the gym session, that's a strong re-entry day. A brief note when you can would close the loop.
Certainty: Unconfirmed
**Feedback:**
The pre-ride smoothie covered the carbohydrate window well - 117g of carbohydrate is exactly where it needed to be for a session of this length. The bagel at lunch adds another solid block. What hasn't come through is on-bike fueling and a post-ride recovery meal. The day's logged total is approximately 1,080 kcal, well short of what a training day like this requires. Fat in particular is tracking low - under 22g logged against a 135g daily target. That gap needs to close tonight.
**Recovery:**
A substantial dinner is the priority. Protein and quality fat sources - salmon, eggs, avocado, walnuts - plus enough carbohydrate to replenish what the session demanded. Hydrate fully. Aim for 8+ hours: tomorrow is the first quality session of the re-entry week and how you feel in the morning determines whether it runs as written or gets trimmed back. If the back responded to today's gym work in any way, note it.
**Tomorrow preview:**
Tempo day, 2:00-2:15 total. Warm up 30 min progressive, then 2 x 12 min at 80-86% FTP, seated and smooth with 6 min easy between reps. Finish with steady Z2. This is the readiness test for the week. Start well-fed: 60-75g CHO per hour on-bike. If sleep tonight is disrupted or morning feel is flat, the modification is 2 x 8 min. The ceiling holds at 86% FTP - tempo, not threshold.
**Monitor:**
- Session report from today when you can.
- Fat and protein both need a meaningful dinner tonight to approach daily minimums.
- Back: if the gym session happened, how did the hinge work feel?

Weekly self-assessment
Weekly check-in, Sid -- welcome back.
Lots to catch up on since we last properly connected. You've come through the tail end of a hard build, 12 days in Shanghai, and a long return trip. Before we get into the week ahead, I want to make sure I have the real picture from your end.
A few things I'm curious about:
How's the back sitting right now? No update since before you left and it's now almost three weeks. Before the gym session today I need an honest read -- resolved, improved, or still about the same.
How are you feeling after the return? The first two nights' sleep, energy levels, appetite. Jet lag from a 14-hour shift doesn't disappear overnight and I'd rather know where you actually are than where you think you should be.
Did Sunday's spin happen? And if it did, how did the first ride back feel?
One more: what did training in Shanghai actually look like from your side? The re-entry week is built on the assumption of full rest -- if there were runs, hotel gym sessions, or anything else, it's useful to know.
