Nutrition specialist handoff

Start condition

Use this reference only after the intake item already exists in the canonical daily log, or when designing or auditing the handoff workflow itself.

Build the strongest available context

Prefer evidence in this rough order:

  1. athlete-stated facts
  2. visible product labels and explicit ingredient labels
  3. previously confirmed recurring-food matches
  4. clear photo evidence
  5. heuristic estimation

Do not let a weaker evidence type overwrite a stronger one without a stated reason.

Required handoff judgments

For each item or batch, decide as applicable:

  • what the item most likely is
  • what parts are confirmed versus inferred
  • whether the case is single-item or batch-context
  • provisional meal role
  • session timing or recovery relevance
  • whether gluten or dairy compatibility is supported or still uncertain
  • what open questions remain material enough to affect guidance

Uncertainty handling

Use explicit uncertainty when evidence is incomplete.

Examples:

  • ingredient list unknown
  • sauce amount unknown
  • product compatibility unverified
  • portion size approximate
  • follow-up timing applies to a batch only by assumption

If gluten or dairy compatibility cannot be supported by athlete text, label evidence, or a previously confirmed recurring food, keep the compatibility state uncertain.

What belongs in the handoff versus the daily log

The daily log should contain the durable human-readable record.

The handoff should contain:

  • the structured cues needed for specialist review
  • evidence strength and uncertainty notes
  • meal role and session context
  • unresolved questions worth carrying into analysis

Do not treat the handoff as the canonical durable record.
