Summary

Different cycling disciplines need different off-bike emphasis. The menu should change by event demands, not by habit.

Gravel

Prioritize postural durability, trunk and hip stability, terrain tolerance, and long-duration robustness. Keep gym cost low when race-specific endurance load is high.

Road

Prioritize force transfer, postural support, fatigue-resistant strength maintenance, and long-season durability.

Cyclocross

Prioritize start power, posterior-chain strength, single-leg control, run-up tolerance, and remount robustness.

XCO MTB

Prioritize strength plus power, dynamic stability, impact tolerance, upper-body robustness, and trunk stiffness under terrain disturbance.

Decision rule

The more specific the bike demands become, the more selective and economical the off-bike work should become.
